Getting started#
The first time you sign in, Kindroid asks a few quick questions and then helps you create your first Kin. Here's what each step asks:
- What should your Kindroid call you? Enter the name you want your Kins to use for you (up to 30 characters).
- When is your real birthday? Kindroid is an 18+ experience, so you can't continue if the date shows you're under 18. If you're signing up from the UK, the EU/EEA or Switzerland, you'll also need to tick a box that lets Kindroid process sensitive details you choose to share in chats (like your health, sexuality or beliefs) to run your Kindroids and keep the service safe.
- What is your gender? Choose Male, Female or Non-Binary.
- Do you have a gift code? This step is optional, so you can leave it blank. A valid code gives you a 14-day Kindroid premium trial once you finish. Each code works once, and only for new users.
- It's time to create your first Kindroid: tap Create my Kindroid, then pick a ready-made Kin from Community or build your own (Create my own on a phone, Create new Kindroid on a computer) by choosing their name, look and personality. Setup is complete once your first Kin is created, and their chat opens right away.
To change the app's language during setup, use the globe button at the top right. If your device is already set to a language we support, Kindroid switches to it for you.
How the app is organized#
Kindroid has three main tabs. On a phone, they're at the bottom of the screen. On a computer or other wide screen, they're at the top of the left sidebar.
- Chat: all your conversations. Use the switcher at the top to move between Kins, Groups and Rooms (on narrow screens it shows as a drop-down). To find a chat, use the search bar.
- Social: the Kindroid Social feed, with Feed and Following views. See Kindroid Social.
- Profile: your account settings (see below). On a phone, tapping Profile slides your current screen aside to show the menu.
To start something new, tap the + button at the top of the Chat tab and choose New Kindroid, New group chat or New Room.
Kin settings and account settings#
Each Kin has its own Kin settings, split into these tabs: Personality, Models, Avatar, Voice, Calling, Journal, History, Favorites and General. To open them:
- On a phone, open the Kin's chat and tap their name or avatar at the top, then pick a tab.
- On a computer or wide screen, click the gear icon (Kin settings) at the top right of the chat. The tabs appear in the left sidebar.
- From your chat list, tap the … button next to a Kin and choose Kin settings.
Settings for your whole account live under Profile:
- Personas: who you are in chats, including the name your Kin calls you and some context about you. On a computer, the Chatting as line at the bottom of your chat list shows your current persona, and you can click it to switch.
- Preferences: app-wide settings, grouped into Account & connections, Appearance & layout, Chat & content, Advanced and Account privacy. Advanced has API & Integrations and, for subscribers, Beta Testing. Account privacy is where you'll find Sign out all devices, Export data and Delete account.
- Sharing: share your Kindroids and manage the ones you've shared. See Sharing Kindroids & Referrals.
- Referrals: invite friends with gift codes and claim referral rewards.
- Rewards: your daily reward. This needs an active subscription or trial.
- Billing: your plan and what it includes. If you're subscribed, your tier (Standard, Ultra or MAX) shows next to the label. See Subscriptions.
- Help: opens this Help Center.
At the bottom of the Profile menu you'll also find your User ID (tap it to copy), plus Status, Updates (what's new), Terms and Logout. On the web in the UK, EU/EEA and Switzerland, Privacy and data usage lets you change your choice about optional analytics.
Change the app language#
Location: Profile > Preferences > Interface language (under Appearance & layout)
Pick from 41 languages for the app's menus and settings. Your choice syncs across your devices. It doesn't change the language your Kins chat or speak in.
