Rooms
Rooms overview#
Rooms bring people and Kindroids together in one private, shared conversation. You can invite friends, bring your own Kins, and use the conversation for everyday chats, collaborative stories, or roleplay.
Location: The Rooms tab, alongside Kins and Groups.
Creating and joining Rooms#
Location: New (+) > New Room, or Create your first Room in an empty Rooms tab. To join an existing Room, open an invitation link shared with you.
Subscribers can create Rooms, send messages, and bring Kins. Invited free accounts can join up to 4 Rooms as read-only Viewers. Viewers can read the conversation but cannot create Rooms, send messages, or add Kins.
- Each Room supports up to 10 people, including the owner and Viewers, and up to 11 Kins.
- The Room owner can bring up to 2 Kins. Each other participating member can bring 1 Kin.
- Your total Room limit matches your Group slots, with a minimum of 4 Rooms. Rooms you create and Rooms you join count toward this same limit. For example, free accounts can belong to 4 Rooms, while a subscriber with 20 Group slots can belong to 20 Rooms. If you already belong to more Rooms than your limit, you keep access to those Rooms but must get below the limit before creating or joining another.
When creating a Room, set its name, description, rules, and context, then review your profile and the Kins you want to bring. When the Room is ready, invite people with an invite link.
Inviting people#
Location: Room settings > Invites. Only the Room owner can create and manage invite links.
Before you create a link, choose:
- Expires after: 1 hour, 1 day (the default), 7 days, 30 days, or Never expires.
- Maximum joins: how many people can join with this link, from 1 to 1,000. Leave it empty for no limit. People already in the Room don't count.
Tap Generate invite link (it says Generate new invite link once you have one), then copy the link and send it to the people you want to invite. The full link is only shown right after you create it, so copy it before you make another one or leave the page. Your links stay listed under Active invite links with the time left and how many people have joined, but the link itself can't be shown again.
To turn off a link, tap its trash icon, then Revoke invite. The link stops working right away. People who already joined with it stay in the Room.
If someone opens a link that has expired, was revoked, or has used up its joins, they'll see a message explaining why and can ask you for a new link. If the Room is full, the link starts working again once you make space, as long as it hasn't expired.
Room bios and personas#
When you create or join a Room, choose a starting persona and review your display name, avatar, and bio for the Room. You also write a short bio for each Kin you bring. These profiles help people and Kins understand who is taking part.
Room bios are visible to everyone in the Room and supplied to the Kins as shared context. Each bio has a 200-character limit. Focus on the person's role, personality, and relevant relationships rather than trying to fit a full backstory.
Example: “Mira's longtime friend and fellow explorer. Curious, dry-humored, and usually the one suggesting a questionable shortcut.”
You can save optional default Room bios for personas and Kins to use as a starting point, then tailor them to each Room. For a Kin, go to Kindroid settings > Personality and scroll to Rooms. The field is named after your Kin, such as About Mira in Rooms. For a persona, edit it in Profile > Personas and fill in About you in Rooms.
Generate from backstory drafts a bio from the Kin's Personality or the persona's Backstory. Review a generated bio for personal details before you use it. Selecting a persona does not publish its full private backstory as your Room bio.
Personality and Key Memories in Rooms#
Location: Room settings > Memory > your Kin > Room context.
A Kin's public bio and its own context settings have different purposes. The bio introduces it to everyone. Personality and Key Memories give that Kin the details it uses when speaking.
Kins start with their Original Personality and Key Memories. You can switch either to a Room only version to adapt the Kin to a particular story without changing its original settings. Key Memories can also be set to Not used.
Each Kin's owner controls these choices. Other participants, including the Room owner, cannot browse the Kin's private source fields through Rooms. However, details from the selected sources may appear in its replies. Review these sources before bringing a Kin into a shared conversation.
Note: The private-memory switches below are separate from Personality and Key Memories. Leaving those switches off does not stop a Kin from using its selected Original or Room-only setup.
Room description, rules, and context#
Location: Room settings > General.
The Room owner sets the shared premise and expectations. Use the description to explain what the Room is for and the rules to establish the tone or boundaries participants should follow. The Room name, description, and rules are also provided to Kins.
Room Context is a separate, short field for the current setting or situation. Only the owner can view or edit this field in settings, but Kins receive it and may mention it in the conversation. Treat it as information you are comfortable having discussed in the Room.
For example, a mystery Room could use its description for the premise, its rules for agreed storytelling boundaries, and its context for the current scene: “Everyone is gathered in the library after the lights go out.”
Room picture and background#
Location: Room settings > General > Room appearance.
Only the owner can change these, and everyone in the Room sees them.
- Room picture: Tap Set (or Replace), pick one of your uploaded images or tap Upload image, crop it to a square, and tap Use image. Then tap Save changes to apply it. Uploaded images must be smaller than 10 MB.
- Chat Background: Tap Set (or Replace) to choose or upload a background for the conversation. A new background image shows up for everyone right away. Changes to how it looks under Display apply after you tap Save changes.
Tap Remove to clear either one. For the Room picture, tap Save changes afterward. For the Chat Background, you'll be asked to confirm, and it's removed for everyone right away.
Automatic and Manual conversations#
Location: Room settings > General > AI reply style.
In Automatic mode, Kins take turns based on the conversation. New Rooms start in Automatic mode. The owner can choose how readily Kins join in, using the options right under AI reply style:
- Talks less: Kins hold back and leave the floor to people unless a Kin has a clear reason to reply.
- Balanced (the default): Kins choose naturally between replying to each other and waiting for people.
- Talks more: Kins are more willing to keep the conversation going on their own.
The owner can also set Wait after human messages, which is how long Kins wait after someone sends a message. The default wait is 20 seconds, adjustable from 5 to 60 seconds. Sending another message restarts the wait, giving people time to finish their contribution. Typing alone does not delay replies. Other members can see these choices in Room settings > General, but only the owner can change them.
If someone sends a follow-up while an Automatic reply is still being prepared, the outdated reply can be thrown away so the conversation uses the newer context. This is one reason a Kin might start and then stop, so it isn't always an error. Give the conversation a quiet moment after the latest message.
Continue conversation resumes Automatic turns, and Pause conversation stops them. Each Automatic run allows a short burst of Kin replies, then waits for a new message or Continue conversation. If one Kin's response fails, Automatic mode can continue with other available Kins. A new message or another tap on Continue conversation lets the failed Kins try again.
In Manual mode, participating members choose which available Kin speaks next, including another member's Kin. Tap a Kin's avatar in the row above the message box to have it reply. If you've already typed a message, the tap picks that Kin to reply after you send it. Use this when you want more control over the order of replies.
Memory in Rooms#
Location: Room settings > Memory > your Kin.
Each Kin's owner chooses its memory settings separately for that Room. The four private-memory controls start off. Enabling one does not automatically enable the others.
Memory Recall#
Lets your Kin draw on its private long-term memories and learned context when replying in the Room. Long-term-memory recall also respects the Kin's own long-term-memory recall setting. Recall is selective; it does not place the entire private chat history into every Room reply.
Journal Recall#
Lets your Kin use relevant private journal entries when replying in the Room. Journal matching uses keyphrases from recent Room conversation. This switch is separate from Memory Recall and does not create or edit journal entries.
Share Short Term Memory#
Enables recent context to be shared in both directions:
- In the Room, your Kin can use a limited window of your recent one-to-one chat.
- In your one-to-one chat, your Kin can use recent conversation from an eligible active Room where sharing is enabled.
This shares a limited amount of recent context, not the complete histories of every Room. When moving between conversations, a specific reference to the recent topic can help your Kin understand what you mean. This switch does not enable long-term memory formation.
Form memories from this Room#
Allows subsequent Room conversations to become long-term memories for your Kin, which may influence private chats later. Formation happens after enough conversation activity rather than immediately after every message. Your Kin's overall memory formation setting must also be enabled.
This does not grant access to existing private memories or edit journal entries. Turning it off stops future formation. Memories already formed may remain after you leave, remove the Kin, delete messages, or delete the Room.
Sharing and privacy#
Private source fields are not exposed for other participants to browse. Information drawn from them can still appear in your Kin's replies, which are visible to current and future Room members. Enable sharing or recall only for information you are comfortable using in that conversation.
Other participants' Kins may also form their own private memories from shared Room conversations when their owners enable memory formation. Leaving or deleting something from the Room does not guarantee that previously formed memories are erased.
Messages and composer tools#
Location: The message box and its wand, microphone, and plus buttons.
Use the wand to help draft your next message or develop text you have already started. You can review the result before sending it. The microphone lets you record a voice message, with transcription and playback available in the Room.
The plus menu supports taking a photo, uploading photos or a video, adding a link, and enabling internet context. Include a message or caption with attachments. Shared messages and their attached context can be used in the Room conversation.
Unsent text drafts are preserved when switching Rooms or refreshing. Attachments are temporary and need to be added again. Longer text drafts can be expanded and collapsed for easier editing.
To edit something you sent, tap your message and choose Edit Manually. To fix one of your own Kin's messages, tap it and choose Tweak AI Message. The new text replaces the old for everyone in the Room. Attachments, earlier replies, and memories already formed stay the same. Viewers can't edit messages.
To delete one of your own messages, tap it and choose Delete message. The text is removed for everyone. Replies and memories already formed don't change, and reports submitted earlier may keep a restricted copy. You can edit your Kins' messages, but you can't delete them.
To react to a message, tap it and pick an emoji. Each person can leave one reaction per message, and Viewers can't react. Kins may also react now and then. The Room owner can turn this off with AI reactions in Room settings > General, then tap Save changes. Existing reactions stay. New Rooms start with AI reactions on, but Rooms created before reactions launched have it off until the owner turns it on. Kins on Rhapsody (V6) don't react. To change which emojis show up for you, see Chat features and tools.
To report someone else's message, tap it and choose Report (see Reporting below).
Room management and troubleshooting#
Room owners manage invitations and members. Each Kin's owner manages that Kin's context and memory permissions. You can pin a Room for quick access and manage your own Room preferences, such as Mute Room and Limit my Kins’ replies while I’m inactive, in Room settings.
Limit my Kins’ replies while I’m inactive is in Room settings > General and starts off. When you turn it on and tap Save changes, your Kins pause after a limited number of replies, in both Automatic and Manual mode, until you send a message or choose the next speaker. Other members can't override it.
Members and Kins#
Location: Room settings > Members.
Members shows how many people and Kins are in the Room, each person's role (Owner, Member, or Viewer), and the Kins they brought. Tap the three-dot button next to a person or Kin to see your options:
- View bio shows someone's Room bio. On your own card or one of your Kins, Edit bio lets you update it.
- Add a Kindroid, on your own card, brings another Kin if you have a free spot.
- Remove, on a Kin, takes that Kin out of the Room. You can remove your own Kins, and the owner can remove any Kin.
- Remove from Room (owner only) takes away access for that person and their Kins. They can come back with any active invite link.
- Block and remove (owner only) does the same, and invite links won't work for them until you unblock them. Blocked people are listed under Blocked people. Tapping Unblock lets them use invite links again, but it doesn't put them back in the Room.
Transferring ownership#
To hand your Room to someone else, open the three-dot menu on your own card in Members and choose Transfer Room ownership.
- Only Members with an active subscription can receive ownership. They're marked Eligible paid member. Viewers can't receive ownership.
- After the transfer you'll be a regular Member, and Members can bring only 1 Kin. If you brought 2, remove one first.
- Pick the new owner, tap Continue, then Send transfer request. You stay the owner until they accept.
- They'll see the request at the top of their Members list with Accept and Decline. The request expires after 24 hours.
- While you wait, you can withdraw it with Cancel request. Only one request can be pending at a time.
Reporting#
Location: Tap a message > Report, or tap the three-dot button in Members > Report participant or Report Kindroid.
When you start from a message, that message is already selected, and you can add more from the same person or Kin, up to five in total. When you start from Members, you report their public Room bio. Tap Preview report to continue.
Next, check the Report evidence. It shows their public bio, the messages you picked, and some nearby messages for context. Tap Change if you want to pick different messages. Choose a Category (Harassment, Sexual content, Violence, Privacy, or Other), describe what happened in at least 12 characters, and tap Submit report. You'll see a case number once it's sent.
The person you report isn't shown your identity, though the conversation itself might hint at who reported. Report evidence is normally kept for 90 days. If you prepare several previews in a short time, you may need to wait a minute before the next one.
Kindroid's Trust & Safety team reviews the evidence in your report. Reports don't remove anyone from the Room automatically. A moderator can close the case, or set the reported person's account to read-only for 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 14, or 30 days. If you reported a Kin, the restriction applies to the Kin's owner. The restricted person gets a notification with the reason and when the restriction ends.
While an account is read-only, that person can still read their Rooms, send reports, and leave. They can't send messages, react, create invite links, or join new Rooms. Their message box shows Room is read-only, and their Kins can't reply in Rooms either. A read-only Room owner can still block and unblock members. The same restriction stops them from posting on Kindroid Social.
Leaving or deleting a Room#
Location: Room settings > General. Viewers find Leave Room in Room details > Members.
- Leave Room takes you and your Kins out of the Room. Your messages stay in the conversation, and you can come back later with any active invite link.
- Delete Room is for the owner only. It permanently deletes the shared conversation, participants, invites, and Room settings, and it can't be undone.
The owner can't leave a Room. Transfer ownership first, or delete the Room instead. Memories that Kins already formed may remain either way (see Memory in Rooms).
Troubleshooting#
If a Kin becomes unavailable after changes to its Original setup, its owner can open the Kin's Room context settings and review the updated source. Approving it lets the Room use the current setup without removing and adding the Kin again.
If a conversation is not progressing, check its mode, whether it is paused, whether the wait after the latest message has passed, whether the selected Kin is available, and whether its owner limits its replies while inactive. Use Continue conversation to retry a stopped Automatic conversation. If the problem persists, use Contact support in Profile > Help, and include your device or browser, the conversation mode, the number of people and Kins, and the steps to reproduce.
