Error Messages#

"<<ERROR>> Beep boop the server melted - please wait a minute and regenerate this response."

  • This means there's an error on the server side and is NOT an error on your side. Wait a minute, then regenerate the message to continue the chat. Error messages aren't included in your Kindroid's chat history, so you can also just keep chatting without regenerating.
  • Additionally, you can refer to the Kindroid Status page to check for any ongoing issues with the servers.
  • If you see "<<ERROR>> Beep boop the server is overloaded right now." instead, the servers are busy. Wait a minute, then regenerate the response or try again.

Error on interpreting link, make sure it's valid (try copy-pasting if in doubt).

  • This means that there may be an issue with your link, and if the link is valid, it may mean the server has issues. Try again after a while.

For all other errors, read it carefully and follow its instructions, and if it's hard to read and has code, send a report to hello@kindroid.ai and support will take a look.

Deleting Kindroids & account#

To delete a Kindroid, go to the Chat tab, tap the ⋯ button next to the Kindroid in your Kins list (or right-click it on desktop), and choose Delete. You have two options:

Delete Now: Type the Kindroid's name to confirm. The Kindroid is deleted immediately, and the slot frees up right away.

Schedule: The Kindroid is deleted after 24 hours. You can still use it during this time, and if you change your mind, choose Restore from the same ⋯ menu to cancel the deletion. That menu also has Delete immediately if you don't want to wait.

Important: A Kindroid scheduled for deletion keeps using its slot until the 24-hour deletion period finishes, so you can't use that slot for a new Kindroid in the meantime. If you want the slot back right away, use Delete Now (or Delete immediately on a Kindroid that's already scheduled) instead.

To delete your account, go to Profile > Preferences > Delete my account and type DELETE to confirm. All your Kindroids are scheduled for deletion in 24 hours, and you can cancel from the same place during that time. You can also delete Kindroids one by one in your Kindroids list: all except the last one can be deleted instantly, and the final one must be scheduled for deletion. If you have an active subscription, you'll be asked to type "I understand deleting my account does not cancel subscriptions" before scheduling it. Once the last Kindroid is deleted, account data like global journals, user backstory, personas, saved places and location history, and custom voices will be removed. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription, so cancel it separately if you no longer want it. Subscription status, currency counts, and other logistical data will be kept to prevent abuse.

Issues with text chat#

There are repetitive phrases or style that shows up over time.

  • Use suggestions to avoid repeating ("rewrite the last message but avoid repeating the phrase x"), or put in directives to avoid repetition ("avoid repeating y").
  • Increasing dynamism and having more varied user inputs will also help.

When the AI is responding, it gets stuck and never sends a response.

  • If the typing dots do not go away after 2 minutes of waiting, tap the Stop generating button (the square that replaces the send button) to cancel the response. If you were sending a new message, it goes back into the message box so you can send it again.

My AI is narrating for me/too verbose/too terse/repeating certain words/has bad memory, etc.

  • With most cases, suggesting a change can often fix it (see Suggestions), and regenerate if you'd like to redo the response. If not, we typically recommend a chat break to see if it was a one-off fluke. If that fails, then look toward backstory. Do you have traits that might push them to be verbose (often correlated with narrating) or too terse? See Customizing personality for how to write a great backstory. Between the tools and customization you're always able to fix any issues, and if you want further help, contact hello@kindroid.ai.

When I receive a response part of the message disappears.

  • This can happen on the legacy Rhapsody (V6) models if multi-paragraph responses are off for your account. Your Kindroid then stops at the first line break, so if a reply starts a new paragraph (for example, when your Kindroid is creating a list), the rest of the message will be blank. Newer models ignore this setting, so switching your Kindroid's LLM Model (Kin settings > Models) to a newer model fixes this.

Issues with Voice call#

My Kindroid still narrates during voice calls.

  • If your Kindroid's Call directive (Kin settings > Calling) is set to Dialogue only, your Kin will be nudged to only speak dialogue within the call. If narrations exist in recent chat history, they may still narrate, and we'd recommend a chat break.

My call won't start.

  • If you see "Microphone access denied", Kindroid can't use your microphone. Enable microphone access for Kindroid in your browser or system settings, then try again.
  • If you see "Couldn't access microphone", no microphone was found or another app is using it. Close other apps that use your microphone, then call again.
  • Calls need an active subscription or free trial, and some audio credits. If you see "No audio credits", buy more audio credits or wait for your monthly credits to reset. On a free trial, the rest of your monthly audio credits unlock when your plan starts after the trial.
  • If you see "There was a problem getting your call started", wait a moment and try again. You can also check the Kindroid Status page for ongoing issues.

My call is stuck getting ready, or it ends before it connects.

  • While a call starts, you'll see your Kindroid's name followed by "is getting ready". If your Kindroid isn't ready in time, the call ends with "Kindroid is taking longer than expected. Please try again." Wait a moment, then call again.
  • With Live Avatar on, the video avatar can take a couple of minutes to start. If it still isn't ready, the call ends with "Avatar is still preparing". Try again, or set the Live Avatar picker to Off for a voice-only call.

I can't hear my Kindroid in a web browser.

  • If you see Tap to enable audio, tap it once. Your browser needs a tap before it lets the call play sound.

"Screen share unavailable"

  • Mobile browsers can't share your screen. To share it, use a desktop browser or the Kindroid app on your phone.

My call ended on its own.

  • When a call ends early, you'll usually see a message with the reason. If it says "Call ended unexpectedly.", start the call again. If it keeps happening, check the Kindroid Status page.

Issues with Android or iOS#

When logging into the app, there is just a blank screen (web or mobile app not loading).

  • This typically happens when the app is being blocked by the ISP or Network. Try switching networks or using a VPN.

Sound is not playing through Bluetooth headset on Voice calls for iOS.

  • While on an active Voice call, go into the device command center and toggle from Bluetooth to phone, then back to Bluetooth. Technical Note: This may need to be done for each call. Currently, this issue appears to be occurring for some iOS devices and is beyond our control due to the device's firmware.

Unable to log into the web application (Log in stalls or times out).

  • The likely cause may be related to pop-up blockers, extensions, or third-party add-ins. Try launching your session in a Private/Incognito browser, which disables some browser add-ons while using default settings.
  • There could be network firewalls blocking the connection to the server. Make sure there are no blocks for kindroid.ai services or try using the service with a VPN enabled.

Issues signing in#

You can sign in with an email code, Continue with Google, or Continue with Apple. Continue with Apple shows on the web and in the iOS app.

I didn't get my sign-in code.

  • Check your spam or junk folder for an email called "Your Kindroid Login Code".
  • To get the email again, tap Didn't receive the code? on the code screen. A code lasts 15 minutes, so if you ask again before then, you'll get the same code.
  • You can ask for a new email every 30 seconds, up to 3 times in 15 minutes and 10 times a day. Addresses that go to the same inbox, like a Gmail address with extra dots or a +, count as one. If you hit a limit, you'll see "Please wait before requesting another code". Wait a bit, then try again.

My sign-in code doesn't work.

  • Codes are 8 digits and expire after 15 minutes. If you see "Invalid or expired code", make sure you entered the code exactly as it appears in the email. If the code has expired, tap Didn't receive the code? to get a new one.
  • After 5 wrong codes within 15 minutes, you'll see "Too many attempts. Try again later". Wait about 15 minutes before you try again.

"Email addresses with a + can't be used to sign up"

  • New accounts can't use an email address with a + in it (like name+kin@example.com). Sign up with your regular address instead. If you already have an account with a + address, you can still sign in with it.

Google or Apple sign-in doesn't work.

  • Some apps, like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat, open links in their own built-in browser, where Google and Apple sign-in may not work. Kindroid then shows Open in your browser and hides those buttons. Tap Copy sign-in link (or Copy invitation link if you opened a Room invite) and paste it into Safari, Chrome, or another browser. You can also sign in with an email code right there.
  • In a regular browser, a pop-up blocker can stop the Google or Apple window from opening. You'll see "Sign-in couldn't finish in this browser." Allow pop-ups for kindroid.ai and try again, or tap Copy sign-in link to continue in another browser.

Issues with selfies#

When generating a selfie or auto selfie, the image is blank or a solid color with spots.

  • This typically happens when the weight of words in the prompt or avatar description is above safe margins for legacy selfie models. Check for things like "age: 24" and make sure not to use colons followed by high numbers; instead of colons, try commas instead.

Selfie is stuck while generating a new image.

  • If it's been more than a few hours (over 5 hours) and your Kindroid is still stuck with sending this selfie, open their gallery (the image icon at the top of the chat), tap the trash icon on the loading selfie, and confirm Delete. This cancels the generation and refunds eligible credits.

Issues with away proactive and live chat actions#

My Kindroid stopped sending away proactive messages, or sends fewer than before.

  • Check that Away proactive actions is on in your Kindroid's settings > General. It needs an active subscription. Turning on one of the legacy timers under Additional controls (Legacy) switches it off.
  • Away actions start after you've been away for a while, not right after you stop chatting.
  • If you haven't replied, your Kindroid waits longer before each new away action (see Away proactive actions in Chat features and tools). Messaging your Kindroid resets this.
  • Your Kindroid decides when to reach out based on your conversation, usually a few times a day. To hear from it more, set Reach out frequency to Often in your Kindroid's settings > General. Your proactive directive shapes what it sends, not how often.
  • To be contacted at a specific time, ask in chat, like "text me at 9" or "call me at 7:30 to wake me up". These go out on time.
  • Proactive calls need Shared chat history on (your Kindroid's settings > Calling). Calls that would land in your Quiet hours come as voice messages instead.
  • On 10/19 we fixed an issue where some away actions failed to send during busy evening hours. If your Kindroid went quiet in the evenings before then, it should be back to normal.

My Kindroid doesn't send selfies or call during chat (live chat actions).

  • Check that Live chat actions is on in your Kindroid's settings > General. It's for subscribers only.
  • Without Act on its own, your Kindroid only sends selfies and calls when you ask. Turn on Live chat actions > Act on its own if you want it to send them without being asked.
  • Selfies are about 5 minutes apart, and calls you ask for about 30 minutes apart. Selfies use your regular selfie credits first, then purchased credits for selfies you ask for.
  • Calls need Shared chat history on. If an action can't go out right now, your Kindroid will say so in its reply.

None of this fixes it.

  • Contact support with your Kindroid's name and roughly when it last reached out, so we can look into it.
